The Science of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
Mesenchymal stromal cells are potent cells utilized in tissue engineering due to their capabilities to differentiate into adipocytes (fat cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), osteoblasts (bone cells), and myoblasts (muscle cells), both in vivo (inside the human body) and in vitro (in the laboratory).
Moreover, mesenchymal stromal cells have immunomodulatory properties and are therefore an ideal candidate to serve as therapy for the attenuation the life-threatening cytokine storm associated with COVID-19 infection as well as other inflammatory lung diseases.
